Modern.com
AR streetwear meets e-commerce
Project Overview
Modern is an e-commerce platform for exclusive streetwear, but with a twist: each piece is paired with an interactive AR experience. Users can preview digital art on the clothing before they buy and unlock immersive drops from artists via a companion app.
I was brought on by ZCapital (the team behind other domain-driven ventures like camping.com, solar.com, and weed.com) to lead product and web design for this project. Our goal was to craft an e-commerce experience where fashion and AR collide.
My Role
– Led product and UX design for modern.com
– Developed interaction models for AR-powered previews
– Built component-driven UI system for scalable commerce
– Designed immersive brand moments using 3D tools
Key Goals
– Design modern, smooth e-commerce UX
– Highlight AR interactions right from the product grid
– Ensure the brand felt bold, forward, and youth-driven
– Make AR the core feature, not a gimmick
Introduction
The first physical meets digital art platform. Modern is an online store specializing in augmented reality (AR) merchandise, featuring exclusive street fashion collections created in collaboration with artists.

AR-first commerce
Modern.com was built to sell AR-enhanced streetwear and tell stories behind it. Every product is AR ready, so shoppers can interact with it and see video previews across the site.
I designed hover-first product tiles that triggered an instant AR preview, bringing the catalog to life with motion and micro-interactions while keeping the path to purchase fast and clear.
We collaborated with artists who earned commissions on collection drops. Artists could also join the Modern community and sell their own AR merchandise through our platform. We provided the storefront and AR tech, and creators handled production and fulfillment.

Building the brand in 3D
Rather than settling for a flat logo, I used Spline 3D to create motion-ready logo variations that echoed the futuristic vibe of the product. These assets were reused in the mobile app and even in some of the AR overlays - letting the branding evolve alongside the product experience.

Modern stories
Modern is more than a store. It is a place to follow artists and the ideas behind each drop. Every collection lives with its backstory: sketches, process clips, studio notes, and short interviews. Visitors can follow their favorite creators to get updates, previews, and behind the scenes content, not just the release itself.

Creator economy
We designed Modern to attract a wide range of artists and creators to launch new drops. The platform provides the storefront, AR tech, and audience, while creators bring their art and handle production and fulfillment.

Closing summary
Building Modern.com meant pairing real AR with a clean, fast shop. We kept the art at the center with a minimal interface and hover-first previews that make the catalog feel alive without slowing checkout.
Our companion AR app and content system let buyers step into the story behind each drop and expand what they purchased with new layers of AR content, delivered after the release and viewable in context.
Modern Stories added context with process notes and studio clips so fans could follow creators, not just drops. The platform also supported an artist-first model where collaborators earned commissions and could sell their own AR pieces while handling fulfillment. The result is a scalable system that sells and tells the story in one place.
